using the optical ins on pro tools 002 with le

hey this is my first post i wondered if anyone has used the opticl ins on rack 002 with other hardware as in, i want to use the 8 ins via opticl being fed by motu 896 to expand capacity to 16 channels simultaneaous ins for my 16 channel desk is this a possibility? thank you andy

Yes. It's possible. Lots of people use similar configurations with 8 channel lite-pipe mic pre's and other converters.
