Question about 001 system from the New Guy

MessageAuthor

Ive been reading this forum for about a month now, and appreciate all the information you all post. So here's my question: I'm ready to put together a project studio and would like any advice or suggestions you all have before spending this much money. Here's the system: Digi 001/ PT LE G4 500 384M Glyph 9gig Hot Swap (10,000rpm) Glyph CDR Waves Gold Bundle Antares Auto-Tune Bomb Factory- Sans Amp Masterlist CD Rode NT2 Condenser Mic Event PS5 monitors Basically, I'll be using this as a project studio for a 4 song demo for which drums and bass have been laid to 2-inch tape, and transfered into a PT session. I'll only recording guitars & vocals, then mix & edit on the system. Any suggestions? I would appreciate any and all input. Thanks...

Oh, I forgot... I'll also be using a dbx 160a Compressor/Limiter for the front end.

RE: Question about 001 system from the New Guy

My $.02... Get an ATA drive instead of the SCSI drive and spend the difference on upgrading the Mic. A TLM 103 might be good - or check out the AKG 4000B or A/T 4050. CAD also has a new tube mic for under a grand. MLCD is also not the least expensive, quality CD burning software around. At least look at Waveburner. Both Waveburner and Jam are about to be upgraded to handle most Firewire and USB CD burners. I haven't heard of any update forthcoming to MLCD. (maybe Digi could inform us if that's wrong). Also, 384MB is overkill unless you're planning on using some software-based synths or samplers. 256MB is more than enough for a full session. If you need more RAM in six months, it will probably be cheaper than now. Finally, see if you can rent an Avalon 737 when you track the lead vocals. I didn't see a mic preamp listed, so I'm wondering how you'll use the 160x for the "front end". Just some suggestions... ------------------ LW [This message has been edited by lwilliam (edited June 22, 2000).]
