MBox 2 - 4 tracks at a time

Advertising

MessageAuthor

I'm considering getting either a MP or LE set up. I need to record 4 tracks at a time. I know that the MBox2 is technically capable of this (via the dig. inputs) but has anyone here successfully done this? I'm a bit concerned about 4 tracks via USB. I would prefer to go LE as I would get the Ignition Pack, but don't really want to spend $1,200 to record 4 tracks. Any advice is appreciated. I've enjoyed reading these forums, you guys are all very helpful. Thanks!

i record 4 tracks at once all the time. have had no issues at all. i happened to have a lexicon mpx 550 that has spdif out. i just put it in bypass mode and use it as a AD converter. works like a charm..

JFreak- Can you tell me where you've found it cheaper? I've seen it less for a used one on ebay; but new from a dealer seems to hover around 1,195-1200? Thanks!

I would check into the M-Powered interfaces using of course the M-Powered software (which you need) It's usable (they say, after calling and finding out) with LE on your system. So you could have the best of both worlds.... I have the orginal MBox & want to do the same, have more inputs... So I'm waiting for my software and this M-Audio interface. Good luck..... if you haven't already decided. Just another option.

One problem with 4 tracks at once is that the "zero latency" monitoring feature of the MBox2 doesn't work with the S/PDIF inputs. So if you're buying the MBox2 for that feature, you're SOL.

BUT, the mbox 2 goes down to 128 samples per buffer which gives you only about 6ms of latency. i dont even use the zero latency monitoring on my mbox 2.
