RE: On VST, Rewire and ProTools...

Ive been using PLUGGO since it became PLOGGO3 and have spoken with both DIGI and CYCLING about why the VST wrapper was dissabled for DIGI,,the answers i got seemed to sugest that it would be a simple thing to make happen,,but that it would introduce an element of instability in to the PT enviroment,,of course it wasn't put to me in so few words,,but that was the impression i was left with,,, I very much dought DIGI went out of there way to cripple this feature,,neither do i feel it was done with any lack of tast,,

this whole issue pisses me off to no end. i was about to get logic, only to find out that logic is going to stop supporting VSTi's and VST plug-ins... what i don't understand is why soft-synth makers don't make RTAS versions available? -- e.g. Absynth works with next to everything but RTAS. i swear i'll end up going to Cubase on a PC for sequencing, which is not where i wanted to end up at all.

...and i agree with mr. roth entirely -- the lack of rewire is amazingly annoying... and it can't be a steinberg/digi rivalry as propellerheads is no longer under the steinberg umbrella... i could live with out VSTi's if they'd just throw us that Rewire bone... t.

Guys, if you want to run Reason with another program, don't count on Digi. Get Cubase or Digital Performer. Reason is definitely worth buying/learning another app. It has totally changed the way I compose.

OK, my appologies for wondering slightly OT here, but there is a ray of hope: 1. Pluggo support RTAS, so anyone can now use Pluggo's developed by third parties for free. 2.Max/MSP (from which Pluggo's are built) supports VST Plug-ins and it also supports Direct IO, ipso facto, you can build DirectIO shells for VSTi's (but not for VST plugs which process audio) with Max/MSP. Hence theUgly VST interface and my own MultiVST Shell (there are probably others). However, the big question is, can you use a Pluggo plug-in under RTAS, which contains a VST slot ? The Max vst~ object does not support Pluggo plugs, but what about the other way round ? A quick test seems to suggest that this will work ! Watch this space .......
