How to achive hard EQ shelving!

MessageAuthor

Hey there.. one thing ive noticed on proper mastered tracks is that there is a HARD knee EQ shelf cutoff abover about 15K... this is were the frequecies actuly have a drop off point, not just a gradule fade that you get with EQ plugins.. My question is.. how can i achive this? ive tryed several plugins.. like waves sonic foundry and sonic tim works! but none of them have enough bruet force to chop the frequecies out.. If your nor sure what i mean.. stick in a well produced rock/metal CD and have a look with an FFT analyizer .. Thanks There also apeaers to be a hard cut off poin at the low end... THanks again!

shelving is not the correct term for what you're describing. More correct would be to say you want a brickwall filter, which is the term for a filter with a very steep cutoff.
