Hello! So I've just started using Reaper and I'm an extreme case of newbieness, so don't get angry on me. I was first of wondering, how can I and are there any special rules, when wanting to sell music developed and created with reaper. What about the VST's do they require some kind of license, plugins etc. Please explain and don't get pissed. Thanks! ;)
Hi, and welcome to the Reaper forum... The developers have given permission to sell your work made with the $60 'Reaper Discouted Licence', as long as you don't earn more from the sales than $20.000 a year. If your revenue (from the Reaper songs) exeeds $20.000, you have to buy the $225 full commercial licence.

See the above post about Reaper. When it comes to vst's, there are generally no restrictions...you can sell music made with them, no problem. Think of them as guitars...Gibson doesnt charge you extra if you want to sell music made with one of their products ;) Paid plugins does require you to purchase a license, but there is no extra license needed for selling music made with it. A few companys sell discounted licenses for non-commercial use, and you will need the commercial license if you want to use them for anything that involves getting paid one way or another. Does that answer your questions?
Great, thanks! :D I've heard of some DAW's that don't allow selling music developed with them, I think it maybe was GarageBand or MagixMusicMaker or something. Maybe I'm mistaking. Thanks for the answers, precise and clear! However, I guess I'll have to get some good ideas for melodies and etceteral stuff before I start selling music though :P

The only vst restrictions I have ever seen are from sample based instruments such as ez drummer, where you are not allowed to sell loops of the midi files (because it could replace the instrument). Spectrasonics used to say that you couldnt use omnisphere for sfx, idk if that is still in the license or not. You usually dont have to worry unless its something like a sfx library, where the restrictions can be surprising (for example I cant use my digital juice sfx in porn production WHAT?!?) In any case its a really good idea to get used to actually reading the eula - its confusing at first, but you get used to it.
Can you post music made with Reaper on YouTube with the discounted license? I can't make money off it without being in a community, right?

When you read some of the software license agreements it gets pretty strange. ie - Vocaloid (Yamaha) "You can't have the synthesized singing that included lyrics which are against public policy of law....... singing that is harmful to the moral rights of the third party...." and alot more restrictions... Some of the bigger suppliers of loops - when giving away their "free loops" they have restrictions(not unfair IMHO) - if you use the loops in a commercial release - you have to purchase the loops. I have also seen a lot of Loop/files where if used - part of publishing goes to creator (usually vocal performances with lyrics)

... the full commercial license is only if your income exceeds 20,000$. That's it? If I buy the 60$ license I can make music, upload it on youtube, sell it on amazon/itunes... no restrictions for that? And if someday my yearly gross revenue does exceed USD $20,000. i'd be more than happy to pay for the full license. But for now... as I'm just starting out there's not really any point in paying 225$. I don't really have that kind of money anyway. P.S Hi people! :)
