Assuming you already have two screens set up... Just stretch the full Pro Tools window across both monitors, then simply move your edit window into one monitor, and your mix window in the other.

Be aware of a few things when using dual monitors. Use a dual AGP vs and additional pci(e) card. Ouputtong to a second card on the pci(e) bus works most of the time but at best will slow your system down. PT prefers thousands of colors vs millions (this seems a bit behind the times to me). and to top it all off; Open ANY window in PT on your second monitor (a plug, session setup, ANYTHING). Restart your computer/PT without the second monitor (unplug it and pretend it died) You will now notice you cannot get the windows you had open on the second monitor to show up on your first/primary monitor (strange and very infuriating when there isn't a spare monitor around).

how nice of you to try so little to understand my point. You missed it quite thorougly. I don't need lectures on my emotional relationship with my computer. I have been using computers and PT for a helluva long time, thank you. There is an OS or app issue I am trying to point out. Perhaps you are on a PC which does behave differently? I'll try again...on the chance your lightbulb is not quite fully burned out yet. Run a Pro Tools session with the edit window on your first monitor and the mix window on your second monitor. Save and shut down. Pick a scenario; your brother borrows your second display, the power supply for the second display dies, you got hit in the head and you aren't smart enough to remember how to turn the second monitor's power on, etc...$#!+ happens. For any reason of your own choosing, run without the second display. You will never see the mix window again... until you run PT on that same Mac with two monitors (or reinstall). Keep a spare handy.

Oh, see that? Now I know where the misunderstanding is. This thread doesn't specify itself as Mac or PC, I'm dual monitoring my PC. My Mac's fine with just the one.

In your monitor system preferences. select show in finder. Then you'll have a small monitor icon in your finder bar. Select "Turn On Mirroring" and all you're windows will be on the one monitor. When your 2nd monitor is back on line then "Turn Off Mirroring". TC
