I'm new to Reaper (just purchased it this morning!) and am having problems with my brand new interface, a Mackie Onyx Satellite. This isn't a Reaper issue, but I'm sure someone on here knows what's going on, since I can't figure it out. Sometimes things work just dandy, but more frequently something happens where the playback of anything in Reaper is 2-3 times faster than it should be. While I did enjoy Alvin and the Chipmunks as a child, I don't want to record it constantly. I haven't been able to figure out exactly what the trigger is that causes it to start speeding up. Any suggestions on what to do here? I'm running XP sp3, in case that's helpful. thanks.

well......I think what the problem is ..... is you have to go into: File Project Settings Project BPM you have to set the BPM to the tempo of the song.

It might be your "play rate" is somehow set to media buttons on your keyboard that I have read can sometimes trigger the playrate to change. next time it happens check your play rate is at "1.0" in your transport panel.

The thing is the BPM setting never changes in the song (not by me or somehow automatically), but the play rate still varies. And it varies at random times and at seemingly random amounts. I'm fairly certain that it's an issue with the interface, and not with Reape. I think this is the case because it didn't do this with my old interface, and there was one time when in iTunes it played back too fast as well.

have you updated the firmware on the satellite, I had to with my one ages ago, it was available on thier website, dont remember it haveing your problem, but worth doing anyway
I'm not familiar with the Onyx, but one thing you could check is whether the Windows sounds are active and re-setting the clock rate of the device. This used to be a common problem in the earlier days of computer-based recording.
Thanks for the helpful input. Sonic:I did install the latest drivers (from March) for the satellite. I'm trying to get them to help me with some tech support. Graeme: how do I go about that? I suspect something like that is what's going on. thanks all.

Might also be a sample rate issue. When something is recorded at one sample rate, then played back at another sample rate, this could happen. Check the sample rate on the Satellite's settings.
