Welcome to the club...I had the exact same problem when I first installed my EZQuest drives. The good news is, here's the cure. According to DigiDesign support, some firewire drivers aren't...to use their term..."ProTools friendly". Using the Speed Tools software that came with the EZQ's to format and/or initialize your drive seems to make PT think the drives are full, or too fragged...or someting, hence the 9060 error. Disable the Speed Tools extensions in your folder, make sure the standard Apple firewire extensions are active, and use the standard Apple software to format and run the drives. If for some reason the Apple software doesn't see your drives (mine didn't), load a basic vanilla firewire controller (I use Disk Control 1.01) then format with that and go to town. Worked like a bandit on crack for me.

RE: Re: ez quest external firwire drive / dae error 9060

Hi friends, here's my deal: powermac 733 G4 w/ 640 mb of ram and 40 gb hard drive that it came with and a new external ez quest 7200 100 gb hard drive. I loaded several projects on the external hard drive when I bought it and the projects ran fine. Then I took the drive to a friends house and dropped off some tracks from the hard drive on to his computer then brought home some projects that he had been working on. When I got home one of the newly loaded projects worked fine, but most of them posted a "dae error 9060" when I tried to play them. Now when I try to use the (external firewire)hard drive to record to I also encounter a "dae error 9060" Really got the new hard drive so I could swap new tracks with my partner and, of course, record to cuz my internal hard drive needs to be backed up and is filling up. Any suggestions? thanks, dan

You're welcome! And, I hope your drives work as well as mine. Almost four months in the rack, getting the doo doo beat out of them every day, and they keep right on singing.

I was having the same problem. I've been running a beige G3 for years and have never had any problems whatsoever. I just installed a new Ezquest 120 gb firewire drive and here come the -9060 errors. By following chico's hints (thanks), here's how I got it to work. In very simple terms: Highlight the drive, go to the Special menu and select "erase disk". Choose mac extended. Then go to the extensions manager control panel under the apple menu. Find the extensions that were installed by the software that shipped with the ezquest which was used to format the drive. Turn those extensions off! They are the problem. Restart yr machine and enjoy!
