Hmmmmmm.....when I downloaded Reaper about a year ago.....I quickly become a Plugin Addict......boy, I must have 50 or 60 of them, that I'd never dream of using.....maybe, I should try some Spring cleaning too.

Patton - you're inspiring me to do the same... I am at about 500 now! All I ever use are the ReaPlugs, Waves and a few other scattered one off plugs. That, and I have a zillion synths. Yea... time to clean.

RE: VST Spring Cleaning

Agree.....I really should do the same cleaning. The problem is that I never really, really finish a song. After my ears get refreshed, maybe a couple of months later, I will hear a song I thought I had finished and find something that needs tweaking. Then I get it all out and start monkeying around with the mix again. And, I never know when one of the VSTs I "cleaned out" will be needed. Do you actually throw them out or do you save them on a CD or something? cliff

RE: VST Spring Cleaning

I have more VSTi synths than I will ever learn to use properly, so, I'm trying to programme my favourite patches from them all into Admiral Quality's Poly-Ana. This hugely under-rated synth has more tone and feel to my ears than any others. The choice of second place is much trickier though with OPX-Pro, impOSCar and Oddity. I'm thinking that a good analogue emulation, a second with a different filter sound and then a 'modern' digital synth, such as Camel Audio's Alchemy, might be all one actually needs to cover all bases. Samplers are another thing of course.....

ah yes VST bloat, searching for that ever elusive sound, uber plug yeah yeah generally I know I am in an uncreative head space when I go off looking for a decent synth (= I can't be bothered to programme a patch properly) or a new effect. although to be honest still looking for an ultra lightweight (CPU) equalizer, love Reaplugs but finding too many reaEQ and my 3gig of ram is useless :( suppose I could render some tracks and "freeze" the eq, but until now I am mainly using midi to trigger vst so there is always the thought of coming back for another little tweak :( oh such a slacker

No the socks aren't collected by trolls, the socks disappear through a worm hole. It's the static build up which is opposed to the rotational friction of the washing machine when there is a nearby negative vortex flux. A common cause of such a flux is within the coils of unearthed coaxial cables - or audio leads! The socks are sucked through the coiled cables but in doing so created a cosmoploastic eruption, all be it quite small in size, and the leads become uncoiled and tangled. It is powerful enough to wake up the VST fairies from their almost perpetual sleep though, then they go to work building VST's but they tire very easily and soon go back to sleep again.

wow! TWO of the universe's great mysteries solved as a side effect of an internet post. amazing. i have a strange feeling that another side effect of this process is somehow involved with another mysterious happenstance of the universe: belly button lint. anyway...so how do we exploit this for the common good (and make lots of money)??? more on topic, yeah, i periodically purge too...i seem to have found a few plugs that by use, i just can't let go of. they stay...the others go. my go-to's don't number anywhere close to 50 though...lol kell

Maybe a dumb question, but exactly how are you guys cleaning out your plugins? Are you un-installing from Windows control panel or the applications un-install, or are you simply removing the *.dll file from the /vst folder? If the latter, isn't there more to the VST than that file? I know Waves has Waveshell or something like that. Just wondering because I too suffer from "plug in bloat". tia
