\"---file location unkown---2\" how do i stop this ?

MessageAuthor

Hi all, I'm mixing a 5.1 project with many archival elements "trickling" in from time to time. i must not have noticed that one of the OMF's that was sent to me had a file issue, probably a piece of insignificant tone that somehow didn't get added to the embedded OMF. Anyway, i track transferred the material to my main session and, ever since, i get a "1 Audio file missing" message..so i hit "automatically relink" but it doesn't go anywhere.. when i go to the TASKS window and want to relink manually, the file shows up as ""---file location unkown---2" in the RELINK window and doesn't find any candidates. the funny thing is that i can't get rid of it since it doesn't show up as OFFLINE, so i can't remove it from the session. i tried making a brand new session and track transferring in the old ones but.....same thing. any ideas ?? thanks, Benny

What version of Pro Tools? Mac or PC? When manually relinking, try searching by File ID only. Worst case, you should be able to locate the offline files in the region bin (in italics) and remove them from the session. Jordan Glasgow Video Test Engineer Digidesign

Thanks for the post, Jordan. Mac DP 2.0 G5 running 10.4.3, PT 7.1cs2. relinking doesn't go anywhere, no matter what settings i use. and my problem is that i don't have ANY files OFFLINE, especially not the one I need to delete !

Have you tried creating a new session and then importing the data from the previous session? I'm not sure if this will fix it but I'm interested to know if it will work. Recently I've come accross some ---file location unkown--- files and i've just ignored them. But because I'm constantly merging session with another engineer I'm always creating new sessions and importing and i haven't noticed if the unknown files remain. mark

Are you displaying auto created regions? Try turning that option on before you search for the offline region in your bin.
