I have seen this pre, and have heard a few things about it, but since you have one and like it...tell me more.... what have you used it on, and what mics.. thanx sdf
I have used it for male vocal with a Rode NT1000 and on drums so far.I got the Burr Brown chips on channels 3&4 so they sound a little warmer than 1&2 on vocal.I usually run a D112 on kick to channel one. An SM57 on snare top and a Oktava MC012 amied at the side of the snare, both mics y-ed together to a single cable, with the side mike wired out of phase. This goes to the second channel. For overheads I use a pair of Nt1000's or Oktava's to channels 3&4.So far the Nt's are my favorites on overhead. The Oktavas are warmer but less detail I think. The model is the newer MPX4-Aii.IT is very clean and not colored. The vox I'm getting is very detailed and you can here an immediate improvement over the stock digi pres.I'm happy with it,Its the first one I havent sent back.Sytek had some new overstock units for the postponed AES show and I got a great deal "under $900"from the factory Rep. Mike Stoica. They also have a web site.Mike said they have these overstock units from time to time and he took good care of me.Call him.
Thank you for the response and tips Lamp!! I have almost $1000 saved for a new pre, so i am seeing how much more cash will get me what. I would hate to drop $1500 on something and regret it, so i am trying to find all the info i can... thanx sdf
