ADAT Bridge clock problems

Advertising

MessageAuthor

It's been a while since I had such a setup so I may not be remembering right. But I recall having to have the ADAT bridge first and then the 888/24 second in the chain because this is the only way to select optical sync in PT. Unless they are both being synced from a house clock.

I forgot to add that both in and out optical cables must be plugged in (in case you only have the bridge out connected) and unless both machines are clocked to an external source, PT must slave to the optical device.

snoopy is right - I am using the same devices: the ADAT Bridge has to come first in the PTchain. in the dakota control panel lock the sample rate and set the clock source to internal. keep in mind that if you run a PTsession at lets say 48 kHz you also have to change the sample rate of the dakota otherwise you will have sync problems within PT (i.e. if your PC is running at the same time), the same with other devices like DAT. if you still run into problems like pops&clicks try changing the buffer size in the dakota control panel.

RE: ADAT Bridge clock problems

Thanks for the info. I'll try switching the order and see what happens. Currently the ADAT is slaved from the 888, and has been for several years with no problems, that's why I'm baffled. This clock jitter, which I'm positive is clock problems because of the readout on the control panel that I can see drifting, popped up out of the blue about 3 weeks ago. Nothing has changed in the studio. I did do a 48k transfer a while back, but everything is set back to normal. Hopefully the order change will restore the clock. Thanks Tim
