Fit project to MIDI?

If I have a MIDI item that is 4 or however many bars long is there a way to fit the project tempo to that MIDI item?

Draw the time selection around that MIDI clip Right-click the timeline >> Set project tempo from timer selection It's probably the (new time signature) option that you want, but try the pothers.

That seems to work for detecting the tempo of the MIDI item but the MIDI item changes its tempo as well and ends up speeding up or slowing down so it still doesn't align with the new tempo. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong.
