How to correctly set audio for movie in DVD menu?

Advertising

MessageAuthor

Hi there, I have a question basically about the scope of the SPRMs. If I set the audio stream in the menu, does it affect the menu's audio stream as well or only audio streams in a title? So when I set the audio stream for a movie, do I have to keep the number of the stream in a gprm only until I start the movie and just then change the audio stream?

Affect to all. But normally, you only have a audio stream in the menu or don't have it, so it doesn't matter; in other words, although you set sprm#1 to (let's say) 3, as the menu only have one (or zero) stream, this one will play.

To further explain, the menu domains (vmgm and vtsm) are allowed only one audio stream, and it has no language. The vob file for menus may contain up to 8 audio streams, all with identical attributes (encoder, channels, etc), but the PGC for each menu will have only one entry pointing to just one stream. This allows you to use the same cells in different language units and have different audio for each language unit. Subpictures are similar except there can be 32 streams, and display modes for 16:9 menus allows up to three streams per PGC, all in the first entry. Now, more to your question. In the menu domains the values of SPRM1, SPRM2, and SPRM3 do not matter, they are used when starting a title to determine the audio/sub streams and angle. The SetSTN command may be used in a title or a vtsm (menu in a vts), but not from the video manager (vmgm).

Not so easy in Scenarist. I've never done it, so I don't know if there is a way with the gui, but in .scp you can edit the Audio Attribute section for each PGC. It is automatic in MuxMan, each audio stream has a language associated with it, just as in titles, and the PGCs of each language unit point to the stream with a matching language. If there is no audio stream with a matching language then the stream with "unspecified language" is used. If there is no matching language or unspecified language stream then the first stream is used. Unfortunately in Scenarist the languages for all audio streams in a menu domain must match or it complains.
