RE: S40 Bonnet cable

Never needed to replace a bonnet release cable before but would imagine alot of it would be trial and error mixed with fumbling and trying to feed the cable through various holes and chanels. Maybe you could attach the new cable to the old one and pull it through? Haynes manual, I would imagine, would be of some assistance for removing panels etc. Good luck...

Are you sure it is the cable ? in 9 times out of 10 it is the catch siezed on the bonnet lock , easy to free off . Changing the cable is difficult due to it's routing through the right front wheel arch , you can't pull the new one through as the cable is tied under the arch liner in 2 places and it has to be guided through the tight wiring loom grommet.

My G/F's civic bonnet wouldn't lock and a huge amount of WD40 on the catch got it back running really well. I'd be surprised if the cable was at fault as it's not like a M/C control cable. The bonnet's maybe been opened 250 times? I don't see that wearing a cable out. It might just be a lubrication problem

There have been a few owners who have reported on this forum their cable breaking, and the various means for gaining access afterwards. When the wife's failed I got my local indie to do it - it's a pig of a job. It's routed behind and under the washer tank, around the inside of the wing behind the liner and is subjected to a number of sharp changes of direction preventing a 'pull through'. The replacement route was 'modified' to give a straighter run. It took him an hour, and he's an expert.

Looks like the cable has gone in my V40 as well. Was on another forum (non-Volvo) earlier and they were saying I needed to cut the grill! Any other (cheaper) ideas?

RE: S40 Bonnet cable

Has anyone had any luck opening their bonnet. I've got exactly the same problem with a flat battery so a real pain. Had a look at a friends catch, but theirs is different to mine. Is the only mechanism in front of the radiator?
