Hello. I was wondering whether it was possible to cut a .vob file so it would fit onto a cd-r disc (800mb)? If so, what freeware can i download to do this? Thanks.

RE: Spliting vob to fit on cd-r

Hi Thanks for the software. I have just put a 650 mb vob file onto a 800 mb cd-r disc using nero. But for some reason the dvd player is not playing it. Could someone tell me why? (the vob file put onto the disc was the last part of the movie) Thanks

Ouch! There are several reasons. Here are a couple. Your DVD player probably won't recognize a CDR as a DVD under any circumstances. Most players do a media check first, see that the media is a CDR, and know that it can't possibly be a DVD. A DVD player needs a full and internally consistent title set (i.e. a collection of IFO and VOB files). In a way a title set constitutes a program, with instructions on what menus to display when, and what happens when a user clicks the menu buttons. The player simply cannot play a part of one VOB.

DVTool just cut files in convenient size, only for storage... I thought that was what you needed. Sorry.

I have been testing the cd-r on my xbox. I know it is capable of playing recordable disc(dvd-r and audio cd-r). But the reasons mentioned (I think are quite valid) will not allow the cd-r (with vob files) to be played. Would finalising the cd-r effect the results? Thanks for the replies. Reply to: "DVTool just cut files in convenient size, only for storage... I thought that was what you needed. Sorry." Dv tool was useful as i have used it for large files. Thanks for your reply. Bye.

Use ChopperXP. It works great for me. You have to have Windows 2K. Good Luck.
