Adding an additional audio channel?

MessageAuthor

Hi! I was wondering on some tricky audio feature. I suppose most of You, on this site are english people, but maybe this thread will help us "foreigners" to be able to overcome a "problem". Most of the dvd-s sold in my country (let's say country X), do not have any X audio channel on it, (BTW, it has in the theater, and it is on the vhs tape), the translations are quite good, so I want to put the X audio on the dvd. 1) Is it possible without "reauthoring" the dvd, let's say changing the Y audio channel with the X one?(if there is a program for it, please write it) 2) If the original dvd does not contain more audio channel(s) than the english one(s), which I want to keep, just to insert the audio X channel, but not mentioning it in the menu?(but let it be selectable in some way) 3) If reauthoring needed, please refer to one. Thanks

RE: Adding an additional audio channel?

Intresting that someone want to do such a thing. In fact I have tried and succeed in it but with complete and full reauthoring since I didn't have access to ifoedit at the time. I added a greek audio from vhs tape in Dreamwork's Ants, completely reauthored the title and burnt on a DVDr. On your 2nd question. I think it is possible to do it with ifoedit. Of course u have to demux the title, reauthor the relevant vobs replacing one audio with yours and following the guides after that. Adding one more audio in the reauthoring stage whithout showing on any menu and selecting by remote control, is something yet to be accomplished and determined if it works and on what standalones. Best of luck though. Been waiting on feedback.

RE: Adding an additional audio channel?

Well as I said previously its a long proccess to do by hand but if you try it then follow these guidelines. Capture your audio from vhs. Quite easy Transform movies audio to wav Open a audio editor and create a montage session add the original audio to timeline and lock it. add the vhs audio bellow and prepare to work U have to hear all of it and make sure that thet r in synck. I noticed that there r variations as for the offset of the the wavs in the timeline. In my case I had to alter the duration of quite a few segments in the timeline in order to get it right. When I say in sync I mean look for sudden, mainly background, short sounds like a door slam or equivalent and try to match it with the original. U may notice that is is not enough to match one point at the start and one at the end. However if this is your case then I guess u r lucky and the 1st part of your job is ok. If u run in to my situation then just locate a segment that is off and alter its duration, then off u go for the next one. After the main audio is done, open SoftEncoder and load the original ac3 file. After parsing u will find the channels as mono wavs in your disk. Can't remember now the exact location but I guess u won't have many 800mb wav files created that same day, so u ll find them easily. The last one should the lfe channel whereas the previous 2 r the rear channels. Repeat the same procedure for the rear channels as for the front ones and try if u can do the same thing with the lfe one. Reload all of them in softencode and u will end up with an ac3 5.1 audio stream to reauthor with. In the other hand just make an ac3 or mp2 audio file from the vhs wav and reauthor with replacing one existing audio with yours, or add another one and inform ifoedit that it has one more audio, even though it cant be directly selected from menu buttons.
