Ouch, I hate this... I have a small AVI file I am working on in Reaper. I started working on it using 4.13 . I loaded 4.14, insert the media file(the AVI) but :-( it doesn't play??? any idea what is different in 4.14 that would cause this??? HELP !!! This happens over and over again and with different video files and even at least one other format(WMV) all the files that will not play in reaper (or crash it) work fine with 4.13 HELP ! By virtue of the fact I don't have these issues using 4.13, I'm thinking it's a problem with 4.14 I'm running windows 7 (X64) 12 gigs of ram. I tried loading K-lite codec pack, no help . What video codecs does reaper use? where are they? how can I make reaper use the K-lite codecs? I opened 4.13 and inserted the video. I copied the media item(AVI) and closed 4.13. Then I opened 4.14 and pasted in Video file. That worked and now the working project containing the Video file can be reloaded???
I have a lot of video problems here. I was using 4.14, now after downgrading to 4.13 I still experience that the video turns black and only a restart of Reaper can remedy the problem - and Reaper freezes/crashes when I try to close the project - it's dies when it tries to remove the video track. I think I'm using Windows 7 own codec to playback XviD - but it's hard to tell. I have a very new FFmpeg installed correctly, but I can't tell whether it is rendering the video. As I am using Reaper for post production, video problems is a huge setback. I hope the Cockos guys will have a look at it - if you do, feel free to contact me as to how to reproduce the bug. Check out the thread in my signature. Grab the FFMPEG libraries linked to there. I do sound to picture all the time, some in Reaper and a lot in Protools. It'll work for you as well. Hit CTRL+F2 on the selected video item to find out exactly how it's being rendered. Please report back if you run in to problems you couldn't fix.

Well, as it turned out, my problem was that I couldn't get FFmpeg to render the video - the XviD codec was always the one being used and it crashes. I was missing a couple of FFmpeg dll's and also - using K-lite tweak tool I was able to unregister the xvid.ax. All I have to do is test - but I think I have found my solution! Regards, Frederik
