Hey out there, can anybody help me? I'm doing a session with a classical pianist and a folk guitarist. I have a digi 002, a RODE NTK, and a studio projects C1. obviously i need to rent some mics. what about a pair of Km183s? any input would be helpful, thanks.

RE: Recording Piano

The last Mix issue had an article dedicated to this. Can you get one? If no one else replies I'll try to dig it out and let you know what mics they recommended. I think a pair of Earthworks (model ??) and a pair of U87 were mentioned as two options.

Match pairs would be ideal. I'ma big 414 fan on guitars and piano. Also the audio technica 4041 is very nice.

RE: Recording Piano

well, in the morning i have the session and due to a crazy shortage of mics in town (from the few places i know) i couldn't get hold of a pair of 4041s. I am going to be using a pair of NT3s on the piano, an NTK on the lead vocal, and my C1 on the accoustic guit. is this ok? i guess one thing i've learned this time is to be prepared! i should have researched my mics out as soon as i got the gig, not just before. but here goes...

RE: Recording Piano

that should work fine. Place properly, spend time getting the mic in the right place and the sounds you want.
