Latency in DAWS

Rather than hijacking the thread Why does reaper have two boxes to adjust latency? I thought I would start a new post regarding latency in Repear (and any DAW) Here is a blurb regarding the latest patch for Sonar 8.3 PE just released today. ----- To measure the delay, make sure your sends and returns are configured properly and that there is a "circuit" for audio to pass from your send back to your return. Pressing the delay measurement button will send an audio signal through the circuit. The round-trip time for this signal to return is measured and displayed on the button. This is the delay that will be compensated for in SONAR to keep the track in sync with the rest of the project. ----- Although I have yet to install this update, this seems to address a very major issue in DAWS, inluding Reaper. The link above discusses how to compensate for this in Reaper.

RE: Latency in DAWS

Hi there, I don't mean to hijack this thread, what I have to say is interesting and relevant but not useful to some of you. I am about to invest in a box from Innerclock which for me will reduce my latency issue to virtually ZERO. Although this box will not be for everyone, the idea on how it works I found revoutionary and is a great read. they have done their homework and the results are on their page here: This box is designed to output sample accurate MIDI CLOCK - DIN SYNC CLOCK - and programmable Appegiator clock only. I use old drum machines and analogue synths, most of which pre date midi. Trying to sync these old macines with a DAW system is incredibly hard due to the nature of old midi standards, the quality of Din sync convertors or the latency in midi breakout boxes or the DAW itself. This box gets rid of that problem by reading a special clock trigger sample which you play in a track on your DAW and output via a seperate output on your sound card from the main audio out. This sample track has a 24ppq resolution which the sync lock box reads in real time as your track is playing and converts that audio track into MIDI Sync and DIN Sync creating a zero latency clock that is created at exactly the same time as your audio is playing. Think about it for a sec and have a read through their website. I don't mead to sound like a salesman. I have no connection with this company at all but I am totally loving it they are just a stones throw up the road from me here in Sydney and I am stoked an Australian company is kicking out products like this ala CMI in the 80's. Unreal, it will totally solve all my latency issues, they will be a thing of the past completly. I hope this post helps someone out. Nath

FWIW, That box would help with MIDI timing 'jitter'... but it won't have any affect on your audio latency. Jim Roseberry

OH SHIT! Is this the box I need to bring an MPC back into my life? Will this fix all the midi badness coming from Reaper into my MPC 3000 / so that I can play reaper and send Midi Beat Clock to the 3000? Oh boy, and how much does the sync II cost / like 700?
