A thought for 001 I/O

Advertising

MessageAuthor

many of us have been requesting more I/O for the 001 and I was thinking about this last night: What if Digi released an additional pci card for the 001 that had 24 channels of TDIF I/O? I would think that the pci card would be fairly easy to make and it could support 96k, so that you could do 96k on the 001 with just a small software change. It also seems that this would work well with Digi's relationship with Tascam. What do you guys think?

I'd be all for it... especially if you could use it with the Digi 002. But why TDIF? ADAT Lightpipe is by far the more popular format and a LOT more gear supports it. Implement S/MUX for higher sample rate compatability, and I'm there!

What would also be cool would be another 001-B box, that can hook into USB2 or that unused post on the back of the 001,and turn the lightpipe and spdif inputs into analogue, and give say two more sets of midi I/O,and to be realy cool, another two Headphone outs with knobs on the front. It must match the style and size of the 001. This way no other product is threatened as the actual I/o of the 001 isnt increased, but the versatility is enhanced. And instead of spending mayor moolah on buying someone else's Pre with adat outs,I can give the money to digi.Same with midi interfaces and headphone amps.

Good point Mike - which brings us back to what we've all discussed previously - a rackmount Firewire equipped I/O expansion unit.

I've been dreaming of such a device since the day I saw MOTU (the direct competitor in the hardware dept in this price range) put out really neat interfaces that had all the I/O and sync capabilities one could need (WORDCLOCK ) and could be stackable. Be it PCI, Firewire, USB2, TDif (I'd like that since it's more common in the A/V field than ADAT and it supports 96 KHz without halving your I/O channels) or ADAT, I'd go to light a candle in my local church (a thing I haven't been doing since I was 6). Now that we are back in the real world let's figure out some way to make do with what we have L.G.
