MBOX & Pulldown

MessageAuthor

Well, here's a maybe... M Box does not have word clock input, but it does have SPDIF inputs. If you can supply 47.952 sample rate to the SPDIF inputs and lock the session to SPDIF input, it might play at the correct speed. Your video would have to be conformed to 30 frames, which it probably already is if you are working from a pull-down Mix system. You might be able to send 47.952 SPDIF reference from a TC DAT machine referenced to blackburst and set to Wide reference. Haven't tried it, don't know if it would work, but if you have the hardware available it might be worth a try. Good luck. Bob McNabb

RE: MBOX & Pulldown

Hi Bob, That's a good thought and it probably would work but that's too much to ask of the cutting room. I'm looking for a self-contained solution where I can just open my session and have everything work. I thought DV Toolkit might handle this but since I haven't tried it, I don't know. There must be others doing this. Maybe from an 002 or an 002rack that has a clock in. I might have to convert. Any body else? Thanks

No, the DV Toolkit will adjust the SMPTE timeline to allow for pull down.. but it can't change the clock which is physically inside your MBox. To actually perform a pull down of the audio you would need to use something like a MOTU Digital Time Piece and clock your MBox off the S/PDIF input to lower the sample rate. This is the same with all LE hardware. Rail

RE: MBOX & Pulldown

Hi You could reset your audio timecode reference to 30, and that will be the audio equivalent to 29.97 w/ pulldown. I'm assuming that you're doing a film show, not video, right? Just remember to switch it back when you go back to the TDM system. If you don't have DV Toolkit, you may want to set the session up at 30 on the TDM system before going to the LE. Hope this helps, good luck!

RE: MBOX & Pulldown

Check out pages 5-6 of the Hopefully you'll read the whole thing, but here's a short sample for those in a hurry: Since DV Toolkit for Pro Tools LE does not have any means to adjust the Pro Tools sample clock, it instead simulates the audio/ video pull relationship by pulling up the video instead of pulling down the audio. This maintains the proper video/audio speed relationship when using the fixed Pro Tools internal clock. The audio sample clock is not pulled down, so the digital outputs are not outputting a pulled down sample clock. The feature described here is not new in 6.7, however I think this is the first time it has been officially documented. -Jordan

RE: MBOX & Pulldown

Okay Jordan or any Digisupport - I need the link for DV Toolkit 6.4. It's greyed out on the website and 6.7 isn't available online yet. At least not that I can find. Please help. I need it for a meeting today. BTW - Changing the session to 30 didn't work. I'm going to try pulling up the video on my TDM system and saving that way and see if it sticks once I go to the mbox. Otherwise, I guess I have to convert or scrounge up a clocking source. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hello. If I remember correctly a demo version of the DV Toolkit came in on the 6.4 install. Check and see if it does. You could then just buy it.
