Hi Just bought an S40 (2005 model). Very happy with it but can't fix our existing bike rack to it. Ive been looking around but can't find the right rack to carry 3 adult bikes. Ideally, I'd like to use a rear mounted rack and will fit a lightboard if required. Can anyone help me as Ive already bought and had to return one rack! Many thanks
Actually, I'm currently looking at options for my V50 on this too. Anyone know how many you can get inside? Also, are the roof mounted options worth the money?

Roof mounted is always a winner in my book but since my Thule bars have scratched the paintwork above my doors I would recommend Volvo's own bars. I can fit 4 bike on the roof of my S40 using Thule carriers.

I just bought an 09 s40 and I too am trying to figure out what kind of bike rack to get. Do you have to get a hitch installed to use a tow bar kind? Should I go back to the dealer or a bike shop for assistance? I'm lost.

You do need a towbar for a towbar mounted rack. If you're not wanting to do that then something along the lines of a Saris Bones rack will fit almost any car, a friend has one and it's a very sturdy piece of kit
The safest method of transporting your bike is on a roof mounted carrier which holds the bike at the front forks (wheel removed) and rear wheel. Thule's rack is excellent and also lockable meaning your pride and joy is safe from thieves if you have to leave the car. Personally I don't like rear mounted carriers - no matter how sturdy they are your bikes are vulnerable when on them.
I have a 2010 S40 and am looking for a cheap rear mounted bike rack. Just enough for me to drive my bike for repairs, to canal towpaths etc. Not motorway or long distance driving. I only need a rack for 1 bike and am tempted by the Saris Bones Solo, however it has not been tested on an S40. Has anyone tried a Saris Bones solo on an S40? It is important for me that the rack, is lightweight, easy to fit and does not require much effort to lift the bike onto the rack. If not the Saris Bones - can someone give me any recommendations?
