Tony old pal, the only thing that has to be loosened off is the bracket that holds the downpipe to the bell housing. It would probably be enough to unbolt the bracket from the bell housing, remove the downpipe, loosely fit the bracket to the new downpipe, bolt up the new one and then bolt up the bracket. You should be able to undo the bracket from the top of the engine bay and certainly the turbo connection from the top. Stainless Steel downpipes are frowned on as they are more prone to splitting than Mild Steel in use. All the best, Peter

Peter, That sounds so easy - and I am sure it is - just unusually nervous for a change. What about the connection to the cat - it looks like there is a clamp/ gasket (?) - will that need replacing as well to maintain the seal? Is there another one at the turbo end as well? just hope the cat doesnt need doing as well! Dont feel like digging a pit in the garage and I cant see my way to buying a hydraulic lift as SWMBO has started to see the old girl as a money pit - well OK I did splash out and get the AC sorted (cough cough) but the essentials have now started to appear and so need doing.
