This would probably the utmost hopeless newbie question that ever occured in this forum but I'm trying to split a large mpeg1 file in two halves to fit cds. I've tried aan endless varation of buttons and/or settings but it's either doing the whole file or just a very small portion of around 15 MB. The Doom9 document doesn't help because it's probably written for an older version. Can someone take the time to explain to me - preferably step by step - how to do this. Thanks so much.;) Veer
hit "settings" then "advance" tab and enable the first filter (source range) then use the new poped up window to adjust ur output range of the input file. do it as much times as parts u need Note : this is my methode, certainly not optimized... A+ BeN
That seemed to work allright - thanks (as well as for your speed of reply) but now I got first an error message after 20 mins (it said it would make a log file but I've not been able to find it) and at the next try it just popped away, could have been at the same position. Any ideas?
you would split MPEG1 files into as many parts as you want using the MPEG tools option at the "File" Menu (top left hand corner). Select the Merge & Cut tab. At "type" select MPEG-1 Video-CD if that is what you are working with. Select "Add" to enter the file you wish to cut. Enter an output name for the section you are about to create. Double-click on the file in the central box, you added above. Another window will open which will allow you to cut to any size you want.
Yes it does all that and then what? I click on run it makes me a file of 97 secs, I go back to the main face and click start it does the whole file? Or if I use BenBen's method it crashes/stops at 20 mins. Beginning to think I need an earlier version of TMPenc to make this work. Mate of mine splitted the same file w/o any problem using a earlier version. (I believe 2.53).

I assume you are working with the whole file. Instead of double-clicking on the file, Select EDIT and the Range edit window will appear. set your START position by setting the Bar to whatever Picture or Time start you want ---> then fix using the left hand curly bracket to the right of the position Bar. set your STOP position by moving video position Bar to whatever Picture or Time you want to stop at ---> fix using the right hand curly bracket. Select OK Select RUN Works every time on all versions of TMPGEnc up to 2.56.
Thanks Hamish for your time and trouble. I've checked another mpeg1 file I have in my collection and it worked as it should, so problem solved. Guess that first mpeg was either corrupt (although I've seen the movie from my pc w/o any problem) or it just doesn't like TMPGenc. The only problem now is with the 2nd mpeg1 (the one that worked) I lose my audio at a certain point when splitted, this is around 35 mins where, in the original file, you can see a slight corruption. Bet that TMPGEnc is a bit sensitive there.:(
