2.99 - Colors - Selected Item

please take a look at this: the Selected Items not showing the Background Colors, and i cant see what random color i set, because the item must be selected to change its color. this seems to be broken with THESE particualr theme settings - i didnt test it further with the other settings much. could this be fixed?

This is currently intentional -- with custom colors set it is very difficult to show selected status while preserving the color (since items look differently).. perhaps we'll just make it a selected-border on those items...

Justin I agree 1000% with you! Border for selected items will be the best solution for that (optional in prefs), even for those new items background you added. Once again... my vote for borders!

Michael: im with you on this. borders arent cool, since there Reaper hides the vertical bordes of consecutive items(zoom dependent) fully colored backgrounds are useful. imho. ..as an inspiration :)

actually you can have borders now.. just make the selected item back ground the same color but with a thin border. done

I am so damn happy that selected items are colored the same. Finally I can use Reapers color system and things selected become nicey black. My suggestion for indicating which custom color selected items have would be a border of the custom icon color, but I really like to have the selected items background in one consistent color. Please at least leave the current behaviour in as an option.

for the BORDER lovers: dont you have it already? i mean you CAN do it, cant you? just modify the new "item_bg.png" and "item_bg_sel.png". for eg.: duplicate the "item_bg.png", add a border to it, then save as "item_bg_sel.png" but theres no .png/scheme for what i'd like to have yet.

Ok, I did a simple test with bbb using transparent images for "item_bg_sel.png" and "item_bg.png" and he's RIGHT about his main post. Items should keep the color we set in "Prefs->Appearance->Color Theme" to the option "Media Items Backgrounds for Selected items(even/odd tracks)". Justin, I think this is really important because if it does so then you can forget about the borders for selected items. We could (I have them already thanks to bbb, hehe ;)) have some transparent images for selected and non-selected items inside the folder of our fav. theme (selected image have a border around for me). Let us know what do you think about this, please. Maybe you find it too clumsy for new users or something.

My idea for the borders was to have them displayed in the custom track (resp. item) color. As an indication of which custom color the item has while it is selected. In a sense this is just the opposite to what Justin and mercato said. Not possible now, but I can live without, though it would look good. I have my item peaks tinted in custom colors. That way i can distinguish custom colors on selected items. But I don't get why that should be more important than easily identifying what is selected in the first hand. I wouldn't want to lay that distinction in a one pixel border. I know how hard it is for me to identify item group members... though I colored the border in a poisoning green i have to search for those rascals like needles in the hey... often I use the select all members of groups command to have an overview, so i cannot imagine a border as the only indication of selection.
