Anyone succeeding in Burning DVD-Rs to an A04 with Primo DVD 2.0??

Peter A. dear: I'm not sure I "succeeded" anything. Too lazy to change any firmware. Select Auto in Bios, Dell420 id the A04 as "104". Change PIO to DMA in W2K (SP2) control panel > device manager. Reboot twice. Primo sees A03 and I leave it alone. Settings: Primo DVD 2.0 Build 2.0.749 Pressing F4 in Primo gives me this: - A04, Firmware 1.20 - A03, Firmware 1.44 I stick with burning w/ Spruce & Scenarist images instead of "folder-drops" (unless I'm in a hurry). No tech reason other than that I figure the scenarist & spruce people have spent tons of $ to make sure their image formatting tricks turn out compliant discs. (Have you wondered why these apps are so expensive ? There must be reasons !)

Talking about burning... I read somewhere that it's a good idea to keep you video DVD's to around 4.0GB, this is due to some dvd media (not being so good quality) starting to cause read errors near the outer edge of the DVD. I've read a lot of posts about people having problems with the last 20 minutes of their DVD's, is this the answer? Thanks again, Cinders.
RE: Anyone succeeding in Burning DVD-Rs to an A04 with Primo DVD 2.0??
Here is my input based on my experience... I have an A04 with primodvd 2.0 and nero 5.5.8.0. - A04 wouldnt be recognized by primodvd 2.0 either. Uninstalled and reinstalled primodvd, updated using the px engine from veritas and all is well. - PrimoDvd burns great, readable by all of my dvd players, 2 panasonic ones and an Xbox. - Ifoedit'ed rips make Primodvd crash consistently upon 'fixup' right before attempting to burn. - Nero 5.5.8.0 burns great, never crashes, but has weird compatibility. Windows' explorer shell itself will not read these disks, and it will not give me a directory listing. Using a program like dvddecryptor will rip the disk fine though. These disks do however, play in my panasonic. They won't play in my xbox. If anyone could help me figure out why windows can't read the nero burned dvds, that would probably fix the xbox problem and all of my burning problems would be solved!!! help! thanks!!!!

cinders, If you use generic media, you may well have problems at the outer edge of some discs. You'll probably have a lot of other problems too. Save youself some frustration and get Verbatim or Apple media. Believe me, they ARE worth the extra money, and you do get what you pay for. About the burning software, I've been using Gear Pro 6.01 Professional. 6.0 won't accept most movies, it gives some errors when importing the video files. But 6.01 has accepted every single movie that I've thrown at it. And they work on most every player that I've tried. Just don't do too much else while you're burning...the writing engine isn't all that great.

RE: Anyone succeeding in Burning DVD-Rs to an A04 with Primo DVD 2.0??
ARGGHHH!!! I #HAD# 5.580, and I've accidentally deleted it (...trying to format a RAID array for NTFS - oh, it's a long story so I won't bore you!). Now all I have is 5.578 and 5.590 - does anyone have a WORKING link for 5.580? I don't know if Ahead GMBH keep an FTP full of older builds, or only the latest build. Any pointers appreciated. Oh, and I am VERY much inclined to agree with Tom para, regarding the probable merits of burning Spruce or Daikin (yes DAIKIN, not Sonic - that's just badge-engineering where it isn't deserved!) images. The question is, is there ANY application which is able to burn a bonafide Spruce or Daikin image to an A04? If I had an A03, then of course Maestro or Scenarist would do the job directly, but this is not an option open to me with my A04. Somebody make me happy - tell me you know of a burning app which can handle this task! Arky ;o)
RE: Anyone succeeding in Burning DVD-Rs to an A04 with Primo DVD 2.0??
Arky, My Pioneer 104 works fine under PrimoDVD 2.0 and thats before I've updated the Veritas PX Engine. I've had it working fine on both Win2000 and my current WinXP setup. I can't understand why yours won't see it correctly!?!?.... I read somewhere that you should only use a standard IDE cable (not an UDMA-66) with the Pioneer 104 set to MASTER on it's own IDE Interface (no other devices sharing) - This is how mine is setup. What OS are you running? Win2K? If not, why not try WinXP, it's the dogs danglies!... Have you tried updating the PX Engine for PrimoDVD? What firmware does you Pioneer A04 have? (I updated to v1.20) Have you made sure you have the correct bus master drivers installed for your onboard IDE? Also, the latest ASPI drivers from Adaptec? I installed the latest ones from the Adaptec website, then copied the Nero WNASPI32.dll (2.0.1.45) into the System32 dir. Last thing to check is that DMA is enabled over PIO. Check each IDE controller under device manager for this. I wrote a DVD using PrimoDVD last night from a Sprucup Disk Image, it worked a treat on my friends DVD player which never recognised any of my older creations. When I checked the format it had created an UDF/ISO format with no Joliet - Perfect! Hope this if of some use, Cinders.

RE: Anyone succeeding in Burning DVD-Rs to an A04 with Primo DVD 2.0??
Arky, I hope this helps. At first, I had problems with Prassi PrimoDVD. Initially, I had version 2.0.747. I retrieved version 2.0.749 and also updated the prassi engine from Veritas. I also, reinstalled my ASPI layer. One of these things, made it work. Also, when I made DVDs by simply adding the VIDEO_TS and, optionally, the AUDIO_TS directories, my DVDs would come out slightly altered. I posted a question about this on the forum somewhere. As a result, I now make an image of the DVD thru IFOEdit and ImgTools by Cujo. This .img file can be burned using any number of burn software, but I still use PrassiDVD. It seems to be good so far. Hope this helps, KeithXP ...woops forgot to mention I'm using Pioneer DVR-A04 on WindowsXP Pro!
