Hi! I have 18" wheels on my S60 and they rub on the inner wheel arch. I have fitted 5mm universal spacers and it has solved the rubbing problem. However, now there is a strong vibration through the steering wheel when at speed. I cleaned the surface of the wheel and the hub and tried to get the spacer central on the hub. Anybody offer any suggestions? Cheers Smiler
Does the vibration go away if you remove wheel spacers ? (Id remove them both) then fit one, then test and the other... Also at what speed is vibration anc can you drive through it or does it get worse the faster you go ?
If you sit the wheel on the stub axle can you move the wheel up and down or does it sit tight on the stub (without wheel bolts in) ? If there is movement get the wheels off and put the originals back on until you can get some spigot rings. The weight of the car should be through the wheel on the stub axle. If you have movement, that will be what is causing the vibration and you may find the wheel bolts snap as a result. Wheel bolts are not designed to take the weight of the car, only to hold the wheel on the stub.
Don't get too down. I have some aftermarket wheels on my car for use throughout the winter with winter tyres. I am also getting some vibration after having the wheels rebalanced three times. My wheels have spigot/O rings but I am not convinced plastic is the best material. Done some googling and found this site: Going to take the wheels off at the weekend, take some measurements and order a set of alu O rings to see if that fixes the vibes.
Hiya, tar for your reply. My wheels were on the car when I bought it so I dont have nay spare wheels, have had the car over a year now and thought it was time I sorted the rubbing issue. The rubbing isnt really bad but just dont want it to rub away my expensive tyres lol. It has the Volvo R Pegasus 18" wheels, although they may be replicas, with Goodyear Eagle Assymetrics. Great tyres, great looking wheels, shame the previous owner didnt get the rubbing issue sorted. I belive there is a kit you can get from volvo to help sort the issue. I take my car to a specialist, an ex volvo mechanic and he told me the kit doesnt always sort the problem especially with the larger wheels.
It's the tyres... I have the same problem with my 17" Volvo Orpheus wheels and Goodyear Eagles. P6000's, no rubbing but not very good tyres. Goodyears, excellent tyres, grip, handling, no tramlining...but rubbing. Going back to your original problem. You have no issue without the spacers except rubbing. You put spacers on, rubbing goes away but vibration starts. Do the spacers fit the stub axle correctly ? Sounds like that may be where your vibration is coming from. Are the wheels you are using aftermarket or Volvo (I can't see in the above posts) ? If Volvo then you don't need Spigot rings as they are the correct wheels for the stub. However, if the spacers are not correct for the stub then it will cause vibration.
