Bonnet won't stay closed

My bonnet on my S40 wont close, it just seems to pop back up. Theres only the catch holding it down. Does the lock mechanism need to be replaced? can anyone help?

My bonnet did the same & not long after the release cable snapped :angry2: Before it did though, I used to push the bonnet release catch back in manualy inside the car. It was obviously the cable seizing up (in my case anyway) that stopped it from returning & not allow the bonnet latch to lock properly. Maybe the same with yours?

mine did this at a meet in strathy park, get some gunk or degreaser and give the latch mech a good squirt and brushup check the operation and then give a good spray with Wd40 bosh, roberts yer fathers brother

Yeah I had exactly the same problem. U think u had closed it, drive off and up it would pop..... Alittle disconcerting. Degunked the locking mechanism and then lubed it. So far job's a good'un as they say Hope this helps Matthew

\With regards the bonnet cable seizing up, it could be down to the release catch seizing up, it happend to me and when I went to pull the cable release it snapped. It's a fairly simple job to replace the bonnet catch if the bonnet's open.

i cleaned it out with white spirit and spayed with with wd40 and it worked perfectly, wont open even if i lift with all my strength, THANK YOU

aye, these things do need cleaning/de-gunking occasionally.
