Adding Plugins doesn't work

Advertising

MessageAuthor

Hello all, I'm the new newbie and lost as one can be. I've downloaded the DrumTrig Plugin fom stormrecordingstudio.co.uk and just can't make Reaper find it. I copied the .dll and .dat file in every reaper directory, but it didn't work. So I created a new folder, told Reaper via Preferences, Options the path, but again it didn't find it. I closed Reaper, started it new. Still nothing. What else can I do? I use the 64bit Version on Vista Ultimate 64 if that matters. I downloaded another Plugin to make sure it wasn't the Plugin itself causing the trouble, but the other one didn't work either. I'm totally clueless now. Hope someone can help me. Greets, mcearnie

I am not famaliar with this drum program but it sounds like you did all the right things. Where did you put them in the Reaper folders?(VST?FX?) I have gotten lost in this area before. I would think it would show up in your instruments folder. Hopfully someone with more expierence will be along shortly. Bardo

If it is a vst plugin, you should put it into the same folder specified in Reapers Preferences->Plug-ins->VST. If there is none, create a folder called VstPlugins and add the path in Reaper's preferences.

well, it is a vst plugin. i tried do copy it in about every reaper folder to make sure (not all at once, but one by one to make sure it wouldn't confuse reaper :-) ) that didn't work, so i created a new folder and gave reaper the path in the preferences/options menu. no success. no external plugins work at all. this special plugin i want to use i saw in a tutorial vid on youtube, so i assume it is working in general. i really hope someohne has an idea... mcearnie

Try doing the same with another VST that works, that will tell you if it's the plugin or not.

D:\Program Files\REAPER (x64)\VSTPlugIns thats the path i told reaper where the vstplugins are, and the same path where i created the folder containing the .dll and .dat files. i went to options/preferences/plugins/vst to put the path in. i also pressed the buttons for "rescan directory" and "clear cache and rescan directory". i quit reaper, started new. but in the fx section they don't show up. no matter where i look. i'm desperate. so far i couldn't get ANY external plugin to work.

You can't get 32 bit VST plugins to work at all with the 64 bit version of Reaper. You could still install the 32 bit version of Reaper and use that in your 64 bit operating system.

so that's the trick? omg! well... i purchased reaper as 64bit. does anyone know if i can just change it? does the 32bit version work without problems in a 64bit os? and on the other hand... how common are 64bit vst plugins?
