Click plugin not working

i've searched the forums for this and found answers, but i can't seem to get any sort of output for the click plugin. the "midi in" light is not on, even though i have a midi controller hooked up. do i need a general midi compatible keyboard in order to hear the click? or am i just missing something? thanks.

The click plug in will sound a click through one of your outputs, not MIDI. Enable it on an Aux track and assign an output on the fader strip. You can even pick the sound you want. I think Cowbell 1 rocks!

see, i DO have it set up through an aux track... but there is no level, the fader is up, so obviously i don't hear anything either. should i be doing anything else other than setting up an aux track and selecting the click plugin on an insert?
