a few simple questions from a noob

MessageAuthor

Hello Reaper Community. I'm just now discovering what seems to be this amazing software. I'm just outgrowing my protools 6.0 rig and beginning to look at options for upgrading or moving on..... Some things I'm wondering about if anyone knows the answers: Could I use the mic input on my laptop to record audio into Reaper? Or do I need a proper interface? Does Reaper have VST instruments already bundled into the software? Is there a click built in or would I need a midi module for that? If I were to buy a new laptop... what would be a proper amount of ram?? I hope these questions aren't too annoying.... any feedback is much appreciated.

RE: a few simple questions from a noob

^^^^yes As far as RAM goes...Most machines come with 4 GB or more, and that should be plenty for a lot of projects. I use a ton of VST's, VSTi's and MIDI an rarely use over 500 MB of RAM. I'm sure you can get further up there in memory usage if you use tons of samples and other large types of projects. If you use a 32 bit OS, 4 GB is max amount of usable RAM. 64 bit allows plenty more if you needed it. Here's a link to limits on various Windows versions.

^^^^ Good advice. @ OTone: Surely you were not using the laptop mic input into Pro Tools?
