Hi I have read the Doom9's guides, and the articals you guys have provided. I still can't grasp it. I can do non interlaced films with no problem. click..click..click..encode Simple! :) I have 5 DVDs that are the same, interlaced. I hope if I provide the info, some one that knows interlace, can say, just click and choose these setting. :) OK, in DVD2AVI preview I get: Aspect Ratio: 4:3 Frame Rate: 29.970 fps Video Type: NTSC Frame Type: Interlaced Also, I have the tiny lines during Preview. Can some one please simply tell me the settings. Thank you. With the info provided above, fill in the blanks. DVD2AVI -> Field Operation -> ? File -> Save&Encode -> Field Operations -> ? Should be simple. ;) Thanks guys

These "sound" like they are true interlaced NTSC, based on your description. DVD2AVI: Make sure Force FILM is turned OFF. You'll need to set Field Operation to None to do that. You should use either "fast" or "field" de-interlace. I cannot tell you which to use. However, you can determine which looks best by running a test. You can take the preview .avs and examine it frame by frame, or, you can create a small excerpt project in dvd2avi using the [ and ] buttons. Try it with both ways and determine which looks the best to you. There is a bug with Fast Deinterlace and GKnot 0.26. There's a sticky in this forum that will tell you how to circumvent the problem.

I don't think dvd2avi provides frame-by-frame images. There are buttons, but they seem to jump multiple frames. So, I've found it easier to make a small test project (using the [ and ] buttons) and look at the frames in the Vdub or Gknot. Those provide accurate single frame advance. I recommend you try that instead.

Thanx. I tried that. It seems that I have 3/5 frames interlaced. Although I am confused. When you look for interlacing artefeacts, is even the smallest artefact considered? And are we talking about every five frames taken as 1 to 5 - 6 to 10 - 11 to 15 or any group of 5 frames? Anyway. Assuming 3/5 frames are interlaced. What do i do? IVTC or Deinterlace. I already tried IVTC. the output is OK but seems diffused/blurred at edges of moving objects (like peoples faces). I should try deinterlace. which one do you reccomend? Maybe I'll try trbarry's TomsMoComp? Thanx --balbrain

RE: Need help from some one that knows Interlaced.

If you're using GKnot 0.26, the "IVTC" by default uses the DeComb filter suite; specifically the Telecide/Decimate filters. You'll see it in the .avs script. You can try setting different parameters, there is a DeComb help file in the Gknot ../Docs folder. You won't need to go through a complete re-encoding. Just edit the .avs file, and then open it in Vdub and examine the filtered video. You'll be able to quickly see what happens when you alter settings. Once you've got something acceptable, then run the encoding with that .avs script. You can also use GreedyHMA; by default it's commented out in the script, and parameters can be found in the ../Docs folder.

About your question - I don't know :( As I said - I'm no expert.. I was just trying to help with a quick and easy method that has worked for me (with the DVD:s that I have).
