New Here!!! Digi001 Vs Digi002Rack

MessageAuthor

Hi, Can anyone tell me what's the differences beetween 001 and 002 Rack? Is just the numbers of preamp's?? I wanna buy my 1st protools but don't know where to start. I can afford the 002Rack but not sure if it's worthless comparing with 001. After all it's just to recording some friend's demos. Please advise me.... Cheers

RE: New Here!!! Digi001 Vs Digi002Rack

the thing with the Mbox u can only record 2 channels at a time... with the 001 u can still record 8 tracks at a time using the 6 1/4" in puts on the back with out pre amps and then the 2 inputs on the front with the pre amps then u can buy pre amps for those 1/4" inputs... u can do that with the 4 1/4" inputs on the 002R also. so if ur recroding a full band u dont want an MBox because u wont have alot of inputs for drums. also if you buy the 002R will you still have enough money for microphones. When doing drums u deffinatly want 2 condenors for overheads you dont wanna use dynamic mics. I started off with the Audix Fusion 6 drum mic package and 2 SM57s for the snare top and bottom. the overheads in the Fusion pack are really nice you can get away with the Kick drum mic but i already upgraded mine to a Beta52 and the tom mics arent too bad but i think they sound bad on a snare drum because i had to use one once on the bottom of the snare unless it was something wrong witht he kids snare i wouldnt try the mic again on the snare but the 57s work great. and that Audix mic package is only 300 bucks. hope this helps matt

whoa, with the 002R you can't do 96k with ADAT???? hope that's not true, coz i think MOTU's latest release can do ADAT @ 96k.

kmshroom: according to the 002 Getting Started Guide: "when set for ADAT format, these Optical ports support 44.1kHz or 48kHz sample rates only." I'm 99% certain this is the same on the 002 Rack. So what?

They will handle two channels of 96 in optical spdif mode (like that used on many music dvd's, or pcm mode on a dvd player), but it disables the rca spdif connections. While I love my 002, and have a pretty darn top of the line computator ( ), I still find that we've got a ways to go before actually being able to put the 96k functionality to any real world use. Maybe when there exists a 64bit pc processor and MS releases a 64 bit non-server OS (i.e. consumer-friendly pricing) and digi makes another upgrade, then we might actually be able to put the 96k LE systems to a real test.
