Stereo Pan / Stereo width

Advertising

MessageAuthor

I would vote for an new pan section with an option to play with the width of a stereo signal. Most sample libraries are in stereo today and it is difficult to place these sounds in the stereo field without having such a feature. We talked about it the the feature request section of the forum and I know now that it could be done with included effects but it is not easy to use - at least for me... ;-) Since the DSP stuff is allready there among Reapers effects the "only" thing is to integrate two knobs in the gui of the mixer. I attached a picture of the mixer section of the upcoming Record program by propellerheads to illustrate what I mean. The pan section there is very easy to use.

I definitely agree, panning left and right individually should be possible by default, without having to use any plugins. Causing every stereo object to be panned hard left and right is wrong, I don't do it that way on a real mixing board because it clouds the mix.

instead, what about the option to split a stereo source item across 2 tracks as you would on an actual console? then the mono pan pots on each channel give you stereo panning the same way you do it on your midas... it might automatically group the faders for both tracks and assign a new color to them for convenience?

Would be great if cockos would go all the way and include surround as well?

Don't we have an FR in the issue tracker about this ? So it'll be Stereo as it is now, Balance Panning, Individual Channel Pan, Balance plus Side-Level Control (Record does that AFAIK) and then of course all the surround isotopes, which are an interesting bunch anyway.

I need sliders/knobs like this on one or two tracks every third project or something. I'd much rather just grab the chanmix2 from the JS-folder on those few occasions, than crowd my entire mixer even more.... -1

Great idea Labyrinth, although I prefer LED bars like Cubase does. :)

I see what you mean, but that may be more difficult to code....don't know.

Just posted pic in the Feature Request tracker. The priority is pretty high, so hopefully we'll finally get this long awaited, and heavily wanted feature.

Click on orange bar and drag up gives you more width. Drag down and you get less width, and you can drag that left/right. It's from addictive drums. Rob.
