RE: Using Another PC (or Mac) processing?

Indeed that's a nice idea, what Jim Roseberry describes :). I use a very old PC myself, an AMD AthlonXP3000+, and always see how far I can go with this one, is it runs rock solid like your laptop. For mixing I use my dual core laptop if necessary. By the way, since I bought a few extremely cpu-hog-synths like Synthsquad from FXpansion, er, even the dual core laptop isn't fast enough for some of the sounds :D. But the old machine is superb, many synths and fx work, I record my guitar into it and can't see a reason why I should buy a newer one (besides those new synths^^)

If there is one program that justifies buying a new computer it would be Reaper. They used to call that the "Magic App".

RE: Using Another PC (or Mac) processing?

I got a new quad a few weeks ago and briefly thought about making my old box, an Athlon XP 3200+, a ReaMote node... and then I thought "WHY?!?!?" ;) Reaper scales so well across multiple cores, this quad is like having unlimited power... at least to me. The ol' Athlon is thus far, sitting gathering dust. I'll probably donate it to a church or something... D

RE: Using Another PC (or Mac) processing?

i should explaing that yes, my old machine is only for tracking with no VST's etc.. I love this old machine and its pretty stable on XP and Reaper runs ok... however I have a Macbook Pro with XP bootcamp (doesn't feel the same somehow as my pc) but at 2GB and 2.4Ghz it still has much more power than my 1.7Ghz P4 Was there a way to input the "CPU" from the idle Macbook Pro into my P4 with REAstream etc? so that i'm still using the PC but the macbook is just used as an engine? My VST's etc are all done on a seperate Mac Pro which I render down and drop into Reaper as tracking... Then the idea is from tracking in reaper, I export all as files and drop into Protools HD for mixing/mastering... I find Reaper quicker than PT, so didn't want to cut out the Reaper process..
