Crazed and cracked headlight glass

My wife's V50 had exactly the same crazingof the headlights - I also thought that this was caused by temp differences. I took the car to the dealer and they replaced them under warranty with no questions asked. I haven't seen evidence of this in my new XC90 or her new lenses so I suppose it must be just one of those things - I suggest you get down to your dealer and get them replaced. Jon

RE: Crazed and cracked headlight glass

Thanks Jon, I've found someone else who had had similar with an XC90 on another US forum - but not sure how he got it resolved as the dealer didn't seem interested. I'll give them a try and see if I can push it - because they are both suffering exactly the same it's difficult to put it down to stone damage. I'll keep you posted. Thanks Ian.

this also happens to the clear indicator lenses on the last of the old C70 series. I think all of the units affected are made by Valeo? I consider them to be of a poorer quality compared to units made by Hella, I guess it's a cost saving excercise by Ford/Volvo

RE: Crazed and cracked headlight glass

Thanks all, had both units replaced under warranty today no quibble. Thay had had a previous scenario on a C70 with what looked like stress fractures around the edges - but the crazing in the middle was a concern as it will start to affect the light pattern... They did ask if I'd had them covered at any time (no) - but if it is hot/cold shock - maybe 'stone protectors' would be a good idea ?? Thanks Ian.

Both of my headlights are crazed on the top on each unit ie not in the light beam or washer area. Not a safety issue, but unsightly. Anyone know where to get some new ones without it costing hundreds?

As soon as i saw these polycarbonate headlamp covers in 2003 on the XC90 i thought " these are never going to last 20 years" .. they are "going off " even earlier than i thought ,they can start to be affected after 3 years ... It seems cars ( of any make ) wont be going to the scrap yards in 20 years now due to rust and wear but in 5 - 10 years due to cost of repaing things like this ... back to the 1960's of planned obsolescence

that is exactly what happened to my old Jaguar S-Type Sports. However instead of simple under warranty repair it took me some time to argue with Jaguar Australia. Eventually they agreed to replace them under warranty. ;(
