Is there a fairly simple way - perhaps by some sort of clue in the VIN number, or by looking at something in the engine bay - to determine whether a S40 1.9D is the 102bhp or 115bhp variant?

the 102bhp is marked with just D on the tailgate, while the 115 has 1.9D

Look at the vin number: YV1VSXX... where the 2 Xs are a 70 here is engine D4192T3, 78 is engine D4192T4, 73 is engine D4192T2. T2 has 95 bhp, T3 has 115 bhp and T4 is 102 bhp. hope this helps.
