I don't know about the "correct" answer, I just tell people, you can use Reaper for a month and then you are supposed to buy the license, it still works if you don't buy a license - I bought the license cos it's such good software and I learned so much from the Reaper community I would feel bad about not buying it. Lawrence is right there, people do what they want
Yeah, I'm still working on my first iPhone app. :) Not easy. (for me not having a C background) I may not make it in time for the intended audience this fall.
maybe they should rename reaper to 'reaper LE' and put out a non-LE version that costs 900 bucks that is totally identical except for a slightly blue-r tinge to the UI. people get all weird about stuff that isn't expensive for some reason.

Yeah... I'm kind of in the same boat. I started looking into C as part of the job. Later, the tool we use as a "window" into our manufacturing process took on a Winodws VBA slant. I had to learn a bit of VBA but not your generic MS VBA. All kinds of custom extensions and crap... none of which translates to "Average Joe" type uses... Oh well... if I get laid off/canned/RIF'd or whatever... I can spend some quality time making music and re-learning VB and C. Go for it Lawrence! Another example for you... A guy I work with has an iPhone... Strange sort of fellow, but anyway... We were on a business trip and having dinner with these guys and for some weird reason, birds came up. My colleague whips out his iPhone and shows off this application he had bought for 20 bucks or so that is a bird watchers dream. A database of birds complete with pictures and 100% search-able by a large number of terms... Anyway, I reckon there is an iPhone market for just about ANY application you can dream up... ;) D
Reaper is shareware the same way stuff like WinZip is shareware. A dialog box pops up. Nobody said shareware had to be crippleware... all shareware refers to is a method of distribution and marketing. Guys like have been doing this for a while.
I call REAPER Honor Ware. You're on your honor to pay if you continue using it. And it's an honor to do so (and be a part of this community). Those with any honor at all will know it's not free. Michael
I think Justin and Company's idea for distributing Reaper was brilliant. It allowed Reaper to get into the hands of the masses quickly and easily. Great way to launch a brand new product, imo. However, Reaper has come a long way since 2006. Leaps and bounds ahead of most other daws. I really do feel that at some point in the near future, Reaper should stop working passed the 30 day trial period. If it were me, I would increase the price of Reaper to at least $99 and give it a real 30 day free evaluation period. After 30 days, the program stops working until you buy a license, or there could be no trial period at all. Just keep the SAVE and SAVE AS functions disabled until the user buys a license.
